design.lag is a Critical Design project which explores how design influences people’s ability to calibrate to new environments through its semantic sensitivities. The project is a conceptual exercise in recognising how design can subtly mislead by upholding aesthetic habits.
The perception of time varies widely between regions, professions, genders and generations. Traditional clocks do not display these hidden meanings, which can be disorienting and frustrating for those working across cultures. Here, some alternative clock designs are proposed which better communicate the cultural meaning of time to new arrivals.
